Three Sisters A is painted on a 8” x 6”, 20 cm x 15 cm, ½” MDF panel using mixed paint media. Three Sisters A a high gloss resin finish and was painted in 2020.
Three Sisters A is from a group of paintings on black panels that explore self leveling binders and pigments. Three Sisters A started as a pool of white binder in the center of the painting. Different pigments were floated on the surface of the binder then pushed out to the edge with reactive media to form a darker ring. The larger background shape glows a pale yellow green as it floats on top of the white binder. You can just see the outer edge of the white binder against the black panel. The panel was tipped downward allowing the binder to flow off the bottom. After drying another inner circle of binder was added with pigment dispersions of yellow and red that were pushed to the edge then dripped downward. While still wet another inner circle of material was added with a dark blue green pigment dispersal that was pushed to the edge then dripped downward through a red tube and off the panel.
